About the Project:

LiftOff: A Map of Career Opportunities at Pearson is a collaborative project of the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) and the Hospitality Workers Training Centre (HWTC).

Our Goal:

Our goal is to help job seekers, workers, their employers and our support teams visualize and learn about promising career opportunities across Toronto's Pearson Community and help you maximize the value of your transferable skills and experience.

Our Methodology:

To create this resource, we worked with MDB Insight to analyse the most recent job listings data specifically for the Pearson Community, identify +200 related occupations across the region and map transition opportunities for those with related skills and experiences.

Job Skills Rankings:

We use the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system to classify jobs (occupations). Jobs are grouped based on the type of:

  • Job duties
  • Work a person does
Skill Level D:

Labour jobs that usually give on-the-job training, such as:

  • Fruit pickers
  • Cleaning staff
  • General labourer
Skill Level C:

Intermediate jobs that usually call for high school and/or job-specific training, such as:

  • Industrial butchers
  • Long-haul truck drivers
  • Food and beverage servers
Skill Level B:

Technical jobs and skilled trades that usually call for a college diploma or training as an apprentice, such as:

  • Chefs
  • Plumbers
  • Electricians
Skill Level A:

Professional jobs that usually call for a degree from a university, such as:

  • Doctors
  • Dentists
  • Architects
